MSPL Limited, the flagship company of Baldota Group was founded in
1961. Today, it is one of the India’s leading iron ore mining companies
and holds the distinction of being the country’s largest producer of
wind power.
MSPL's sales during the year ended on March 31, 2007 amounted to 4.88
million metric tons of iron ore products comprising 2.36 million metric
tons of high grade fines, 1.10 million metric tons of medium grade
fines, 0.97 million metric tons of high grade calibrated lump ore and
0.44 million metric tons of medium grade calibrated lump ore.
MSPL also owns and operates wind farms with a current installed capacity
of 111.6 MW. MSPL's wind farms are situated in Harpanahalli, with a
capacity of 46.25 MW, Chitradurga, with a capacity of 38.35 MW, Harihar
with a capacity of 6 MW in the State of Karnataka, Satara, with a
capacity of 1 MW and Dhule with a capacity of 20 MW in the State of
Maharashtra and with a capacity of 30 MW at Surajbari in the State of
Gujarat.
History
MSPL was originally founded by the late Mr. Abheraj H. Baldota in 1961.
Prior to incorporating MSPL, Mr. Abheraj Baldota was a trader in
non-ferrous metals. He was the President of the Bombay Metal Exchange in
the year 1960.
Under his aegis, the Baldota Group transformed from a fledgling mining
company to a full-fledged conglomerate with diversified such as iron
ore, wind power, gases, steel, chemicals and diamond & gold mining.
Resources
MSPL is an iron ore mining, processing and exporting company over four
decades old. According to the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries,
MSPL was the first private company in India to receive a license for
export of high grade Iron Ore (having a Fe content of 64% or more).
MSPL is the flagship company of the Baldota Group of Companies, which
are privately owned principally by the Baldota family.
MSPL is an ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:1996 and OHSAS 18001:1999 certified
company. According to Bureau Veritas, MSPL Limited is the first unit
certified in the mining sector in India for upgrades to ISO 9001:2000
and ISO 14001:2004 status. MSPL Limited holds the status of being a
three star export house.
Wind Energy
MSPL is ranked No. 1 in the wind energy sector with combined installed
capacity for the group being 191.6 MW as on June 2007. According to the

From installing a 1.5 MW wind mill at Satara, Maharashtra in 2001, MSPL
has added more capacity in the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra and
Gujarat.
MSPL had the largest installed wind power generation capacity in India,
as on 31st March, 2007.
During 2006-2007, MSPL added another 30 MWs and plans to double their
capacity to 400 MW by 2010. The objective behind the investment in wind
energy is to contribute towards combatting the climate change crisis.
MSPL has wind farms at Satara and Dhule in Maharashtra, Chitradurga,
Harpanahalli and Kundur (near Harihar) in Karnataka and Surajbari in
Gujarat. As of 31st March 2007, MSPL’s total investment in the wind
energy sector has touched INR 6061.41 Million (whereas the overall
investment for the Baldota Group is 9242.25 Million).
